No, that's not it at all. There's *no* modern oboe, student model or otherwise that doesn't include a link from the C# to the C. That has nothing to do with the articulated B to C#. With the articulated low-B to C#, the closing of the low-B key closes the C# vent as well.

Also, WRT the presence of low-B to C# in a Bach Cantata, do you recall which one? It should be a rarity, since the instrument of Bach's time (baroque oboe) only has keys that extend to low C.

About the Fox/Yamaha comparison: The oboes are in about the same price range, so I'd probably make my decision based on factors other than keywork. The keywork differences aren't such a big deal.
