I was thinking the same thing. But it can be cheaper to change your cane supplier than to get into gouging and shaping! But it is frustrating, too--my oboe cane supplier is good, but the English horn cane they've sent me is crummy. I've found better EH cane with another supplier, but I get some minor leaks with their shape (which are taken care of well by PTFE tape). I may actually start doing my own EH shaping.
