it seems to me it could be an issue of what oboe fingerings your regular teacher wants to teach you as a beginner

regular teacher may want to make sure you learn how to do basic 1st & 2nd 8ve transition fingering techniques -- which automatic mechanism doesn't let you learn

beginner won't be doing lots of prolonged upper register playing anyway, so automatic wouldn't be used as much as it's designed for

beginner won't be whizzing up and down in the high register in 16ths & 32nds either, which is when the automatic really earns its value

other than the automatic feature, what other extra keys on the automatic marigaux are not on the beginner's fossati?

If they're all there (Low Bb, Left F and forked F resonance vent) then the tie-breaker might be how much the marigaux will cost to rent & insure compared with a beginner's fossati

if you decide fossati, when you take the marigaux back, ask if it's OK for you to drop in and test-play it in the shop every six months while they still have it, and as your playing skills improve you may discover more about the older instrument than you can tell at the moment
