Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your responses. This week I learned a lot from you all.
I am no longer in doubt whether it is ok if I start playing a professional oboe.
However, I also learned that it's not real easy to pick the right one. In short I need ears and skills that I don't have just yet.
So what I've thought up is this:
I'll postpone buying the oboe, and I will go and rent a professional secondhand oboe.
That is even cheaper than renting the student oboe from my musicschool - which is secondhand as well, considering it has been rented out before.
As long as the ears aren't sufficiently trained, I may just as well go for good keywork.
Then after a period, whem I'm a bit more developed, I may choose to buy a similar oboe if I liked it, or another brand if I didn't like the rental's sound.
I'm going to ponder over this for a bit, as I'll be leaving for a short vacation, and will probably come back to you with some questions.
Thanks for the answers and thanks for making me feel welcome on the bboard.
Joepie
