Oh, OK, so it's just an experiment
observation -- inadequate contact time probably foiling desired results for reasons stated
for example, recommended contact time for mouthwash is 30 seconds
and another example, from wikipedia rubbing alcohol article

Anyway, it's not just biological or chemical contact that wears reeds out, it's the rapid vibrations of blowing them that does a lot of damage, that breaks the fibres apart, and the other stuff happens too, part of Nature's biodegrading & recycling process, so be happy, we're recycling cane, supporting the economy, and making music :-)
