Learn to love the key of D flat! It is actually my second favorite key, after G minor. I love its timbre. (Oddly, I do not have the same feeling about the key of C# Major.) I play the scale every day, and, though it might be somewhat more cumbersome than other keys to play smoothley, I now really enjoy the note combinations and relish the opportunities I notice to play them in passages all through the literature. This must be one of the ways in which oboists become a little odd...
