Wow! I am SO happy that you found the source of the "fuzzy" sound -- and it was fuzzy, indeed!
Would that all fixes were so quick!
BTW, for those of you who are hanging on with bated breath to learn if I ever got my Covey set right again, I am happy to report that it is now behaving, or misbehaving, as well as ever. My teacher went over it twice with the oboist's equivalent of a fine-tooth comb, and got it almost right.
But we both still had the nagging sensation that something wasn't seating right.
Then, in a fit of "what the heck, it can't hurt", and because I had two concerts to play this past weekend, I took a piece of the finest wet-dry sandpaper I had (almost no grit -- less grit than a dollar bill), and gently swiped off the business side of all the top joint corks. (Some people actually do use crisp dollar bills for this, I understand.)
It worked!
A little too voo-doo for my tastes, but, hey! I've got a functional oboe again.
Now, ask me what happened at the end of my second concert performance. (I will only tell if asked, because this was totally my fault!)
