I did a similar thing putting my (then Yamaha) oboe on it's peg without realising the base had closed up as I moved it (I pulled it towards me with the bell before putting my oboe on it) - it went splat, face down on the floor.
But it was only the back 8ve key overlever (the part curving round to the front that operates the lower 8ve key vent pad) that got bent upwards, and was easy enough to bend back there and then.
