Short of making your own reeds, its good to have a few tools for simple adjustments and the plaque with a rounded end rather than the pointed tip is useful for cleaning gunk or small debris out of the reed tip.
I know a couple people who use pipe cleaners for this instead, inserting the cleaner into the large staple end and carefully pushing it out through the soaked reed's tip, then pulling it the rest of the way.
Also useful, some teflon plumbers tape (in place of fisk skin) in case a reed leaks slightly above the thread.
