 How long does it take you to make a reed?

Hi all,

I've been making reeds for about three weeks now...made two successfully out of about ten tries. Soak that cane *well* before tying to the stable I've learned from three mistakes so far.... And keep that knife sharp!

Anyway, I am generally a patient person but this thinning the tips (thin it some more, and then some more and then some more) stuff is just so time consuming and it's easy to make mistakes. I'm an experienced woodworker and I have been tempted to go out in the garage and get my Dremel tool out, put the sander on and just get the tips started with that. LOL.

For reals, how long does it take you "pros" to make a reed? Do you find that thinning the tips is 90% of it and the rest is done quickly?

Would love to hear your opinions.
