Scrape time to first playable reed.... 2 minutes....
But that is after gouging, shaping, tieing and drying with a preliminary scrape.
I like newly tied reeds to dry a few days before scraping.
After that, I do what many others have stated... get it working, put it away, finish in 2 -3 more 2 minute sessions, playing perhaps 10 -15 minutes once its comfortable.
I like CJW's long tone approach and have done that for years myself.
I also recently decided to flood the reed with vibrations and play a multiphonic based on a low b (vent half hole and depress 1st octave, blow Forte and move the embouchure around a lot to 'bend' the note w/o biting.
( Had to add my usual nuttiness, else CJW would be disappointed...)
This does seems to work the reed in sooner and promotes low range response. I still don't have a measure of the impact to longevity of the reed but then electro-shock is not for everyone either.
Final adjustments seem to be to scrape a very thin extreme tip about 1/3 mm and clip a hair's width off tip. If a bit low in pitch, slip the blades very slightly.
This for a 2 -3 HZ rise in pitch, and if more is needed clip, scrape tip-heart-back and reclip...
