Interesting that you should ask this question right now. There is a current thread on the IDRS list asking professional players what they are playing, and what they might be in the market to acquire.
Surprisingly (to me, at least), the oboe which is getting absolutely rave reviews is the Howarth XL, a British product.
I don't believe anyone in the aforementioned poll has yet mentioned the Yamaha 841 -- although I do know that a number of symphony oboists use it.
One mentioned that he would be thinking about a Covey.
Almost all are/were Loree players. But the Howarth XL seems to be making great inroads.
The other oboe that is mentioned as being a favorite of the Brits is the Marigaux (a French instrument).
And then, there is the Josef oboe, which is what -- Czech? Apparently a very fine oboe, but very costly.
(If all these players are switching, sounds like you might be able to pick up a good used Loree sometime soon.)
