Dear Clarence,
You are wanting to buy a plastic oboe...I am not sure what type of playing you are interested in, but that will make a huge difference in the type of oboe you should be looking into buying.
If you are only wanting to start out on oboe, and not play in any ensembles etc, then you might want to consider a plastic oboe. However, I would never really recommend a plastic oboe. They are generally student models that have certain keys "missing" on them. I would rather go for a wood oboe that has all the keys. It is unnecessary for the oboe to have a 3rd octave key...it does help, but not anything you really need to worry about at a learning stage. Make sure the oboe has a "left F", low B-C# trill, Eb-E trill ring on right hand and low B-flat. Those are important notes...and keys to have on the instrument...even at a learning stage.
Vade-Macum is a good book, and it starts out with basics and goes right into advance methods...it's a huge study book and can help guide you.
Sorry for the long reply, but I thought that it would help you.
