Hello...

In my opinion plastic oboes are not that great. You get a bright sound and it does not have the same characteristics as a wood oboe carries. I play on a Rosewood Yamaha. I love it to pieces. Prior to that instrument I was playing on Lorees and they were all of grenadilla wood. I have played on a plastic oboe for a short time, when my Loree was in the shop, and I must admit I hated playing on it. It didn't give me the resonance that I wanted. I am not sure what you are looking for...a professional model or a student model...but I know that you can get a type of oboe that is a little more less expensive by Buffet. Buffet also makes "greenline" oboes, which are becoming more and more popular in the clarinet world. I have never tried them, but I know the clarinets sound wonderful. The "greenline" instruments are a mix of something and wood to help prevent it from cracking. I am not sure of what else you need to know, but mainly these are my personal feelings.
