One more thing i learnt about salvaging almost dead and non responsive reeds, which i don't know if the above has mentioned. Place the corner of a 5 dollar note (i don't know what sort of bank notes you have there in the US, but we do have 5 Ringgit notes..LOLs...) into a reed to as far as almost halfway down into your reed, sort of like putting the oboe plaque into the tip. Pinch the tip of the reed, and while doing so pull the note out of the reed. This will greatly enhance the function of the reed, at least for another 1 or 2 hours. Don't hope to have it playable the next day. Be warned. Don't do this often on a reed and better yet do not use this method unless it is your last resort.
