 Reeds... end of the road... how to tell?

Hello all,

I have been playing a generic (Jones I believe) med hard, scraped a bit reed for
about 2 weeks over vacation with no reed places to buy a new one in sight. Today for about the first 15 minutes the reed sounds good, but then it almost feels soft and the hole starts closing and I have to constently open it. It feels almost as if the tip is elastic.

Question is what signs are tell tale that a reed is done and a new one needed, made?
