I usually buy my reeds from Rdg in Los Angeles when I am down there (the yellow hard ones) and scrape them to the hardness I can handle (about med/med hard). Of course LA is over 65 miles from my house so I can not run down and spend 20 dollar in fuel to run down to LA everytime I need a reed. I usually buy 2 when I go. When I ran out of the Rdg ones I went to the local SamAsh and bought some med hard ones and scraped them, only 2 of three were even good and one sounded dead (they are 7.95 each vs 21 for one rdg). My buffet goes in for setup in 2 weeks so I will get a few new ones.

I have been playing for 4 months and my instructior will start to show me reed making at our next lesson (she has been on maternaty leave for the last month). It is significantly cheeper to make my own anyway (something like 6 - 7 per reed).
