I'm in the market for a gouging machine and from all I've seen and heard the Ferrillo gouge would most likely be perfect for me. (Laubin player/Brannen X shape/likes plenty of resistance)
Just yesterday I ordered some cane gouged on a Ferrillo machine so I can see what the gouge is like.
My reservation is in paying over $2000 for what is basically a $600 Graf machine. In my opinion the mechanism of the Ross machine is far superior, but Dan's gouge really isn't to my taste.
It seems that the most cost-effective option will be to buy an inexpensive Graf machine and have someone set it up with a fairly resistant gouge. (Bob Weiner in Miami set one up for me 20-some years ago and it was terrific - wish I still had that machine)
I'm torn.....
Any thoughts/ideas? Am I neglecting other gouging machine makers?
