Hi everybody. I've been reading these boards for a while, but this is my first time posting.
I've just acquired a Ferrillo gouging machine and have yet to be able to make a good reed on it. Prior to this I've almost exclusively used a Ross machine. The main problem that I've been having is that bottom octave of the crow almost never comes out on the reeds now and the sound is rather dull and lacks depth. The machine was set up correctly and measures between .58-.60 in the middle and the sides have been right around .47-.48.
I'm at a loss for why I am having so many problems right now, and the gouger might not be an issue at all. Any suggestions would be great!
