As Jonathan pointed out, it's spot on.
From my experience, I have found that the Ferrillo machine leaves much more in the center of the cane with a "wider double radius spine". This leaves more cane in the channels as well. This produces a piece of can that you have to scrape to "release the vibrations", where as the Ross gouge is a much livelier gouge and you have to scrape "to dampen the vibrations."
I use a Caleb -1 and make around 100 reeds on the shape a month, and would speculate that it might not be WIDE ENOUGH. Try a Joshua +2 or +4, or a Brannen X.
Also be aware that Ferrillo plays on a very different instrument from a Loree AK, and modifies his staples with a staple squisher to reshape them as well, so "one size might not fit all" in this situation.
