thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas. nice to meet you, Mr.Hubbard. i dont actually have a tip but is pre-shaped cane from maybe the 90's from a cane seller.
i'm actually now in the process of trying out some nice used AK Lorees and probably getting rid of my Yamaha- this changes things- so I did spend part of my day using some old cane to try to make reeds for the AKs..including the Robinson shape. I did take tfriedle's advise and I was able to have a decent reed with a sound I really liked..but indeed I have to use some lip pressure to feel comfortable...not sure I want to work so hard. i do love the dark sound tho... also working with some Weber 1C shape per my friend Cooper. also messing with Lucarelli, and Gilbert -1. have some bought reeds that are Sampson I think
Thats my shaping adventure so far. i'm glad to have found this board- So helpful to me after a 15 yr hiatus from oboe
