hello,
i'm wondering who amongst this microworld of oboedom happen to play on the Robinson (Robinson-Barr) shape. i have fiddled with it for many years and am again now as I start to play again. i realize there are so many variables because of gouge, cane quality, staples, oboes, personal embouchure, etc, but I find I like the color and qulity of a musical line I can get, but I feel ( and really often am) flat or on the lower side of pitch. i know this is a wider shape but I hate to "bite" up pitch. And I know you might say go to a bit more narrow shape and I may, but is anyone using this shape and feeling comfortable? If so, can I ask your setup and general scraping tendencies?
my info says tie at 74 or 74.5. My remaining cane is old and was bought shaped so I dont remember gouge. i use Stevens thinwall 47 ( though I haven some old Loree tubes) on a Yamaha 841T
Thanks for any thoughts. Marc
