One person who used to make reed cases (and sold lots of them on The Auction Site) simply purchased likely-looking boxes wherever she found them -- Goodwill, other thrift stores, Wal-Mart, wherever! Then she lined them and glued in some dense foam strips with cut-outs to hold the reeds, and another beneath that to make pushing the reeds up from the slots easier.
One that I got from her years ago is still one of my faves -- it's a box she found at a bookstore, with an inspirational verse on it.
