I love wood cases, lacquered. They feel much better than metal. Of course if you lacquer the metal, you could get the same effect I believe. Lots of guys do wood cases, so the market seems pretty full. I like the idea of recycled cough-drop boxes or other recycled products. That could be a good product for the earth conscious.
Buffet makes a greenline series oboe that is essentially wood dust and a bonding material. I don't know how the process works, but that could be a possibility, and you wouldn't even need a full block of wood.
