I was speaking in terms of Htz, but you have a good point.
In cents, the + 20 Htz damage at 440 is much more severe (sharper) than being 20 Htz sharp on a 880, and so forth as we go higher.
Whichever math, at least the semi-tone remains consistent in cents.
Its probably not bad for us to use both descriptions and try to keep each other honest since both terms mean so much in various contexts.
To make matters a little more complex, my tuner allows me to set the octave, and if I don't set it to a high octave, its starts reading overtones over the lower fundamental. Its not bad, just different from what people might expect.
Actually, there are 2 displays, one of which is always in cents. Its probably the most useful since I usually play with equal-tempered instruments.
