You are essentially describing the acclimatization period for the wood - balancing its response to breath moisture versus ambiant air moisture. Cracks have been happening for a long time and I have 4 rings around my 1921 Pan-American to prove it. So we need to understand them and live around them.

I don't think anyone wants to blame TrueFinlandishness nor his teacher for their tribulations, but we must explore where breakages come from.

Bent keys could be from lax workmanship, but Howarth is not Bundy... Cracks in the wood could be from improper selection (the more you pay, the better manufacturers select their wood.) - but then I'm not convinced there IS a way to predict if wood will crack or not and/or where.

In all cases, we do sympathize, but we also try to explore how to prevent this in the future. To just blame the instrument and/or manufacturer is just naïve.
