I started imagining a couple options, although I have not tried this.
One question is, in performance, if you need to change reeds quickly, will the insert fall out quickly?
I'd think rubber o-rings would need to be extracted, so perhaps a little shelf of metal that is loose enough to insert and remove very quickly.
I'd probably keep a little hook nearby in case it rotates and gets stuck, which I think is likely unless the height of the insert prevents that.
Are you thinking of multiple same-sized inserts, say 1-2 mm at a time, or a series of graduated inserts to solve for differing amounts of sharpness?
I have two different oboes from the same maker and the reed wells have different diameters, which introduces some extra things for me to manage that way. Snug reed fits in one are very loose in the other, and then snug in the larger well will not go into the tighter one.
But then, I started to envision a little turbo-blade insert, (fixed, not movable... think jet engine at rest) that might stir things up in the sound, cause it to spin down into the oboe, and now I am really intrigued by your question.
