I'm really sorry it took me so long to follow-up on your advice: really good advice!

What an exciting time to play the oboe! Bernardini shows that we have gone a long way in period instruments since Anthony Robson.... big reeds and period instruments are the only things preventing that one from sounding like H.H.

I find Schneeman overdoes it in the Handel BUT: it's great to hear him play Saint-Saens! With your suggestions, I'll have a lot to look for at the public and university libraries!

I am fully in love with the music of Handel, but I find him really hard to play. It's wonderful to listen to but too easy to get bored playing it. After hearing mediocre and fantastic recordings of Handel, I want to get it right.

I used to think Heinz Holliger was "God" in terms of his ornamentation.... then I heard Albrecht Mayer and John Abberger and Aradia Ensemble (several oboes, names unknown) do just as well and perhaps with even more playful musicality. I don't like H.H.'s sound (I used to sound like that, and hated myself for it), but I have to admit to his importance.
