Wufus,
But Mr. Bridge also mentions that "I have just started - for about 6 months now - using the RC12 from Dimiter Jordanov which is narrower than the Rigoutat -2 and this works well on the Rigoutat." and "It makes quite a big reed but works well on my Rigoutat Evolution. More prone to sagging on 1st octave notes though."
My experience is, the tying determines a lot of these factors. If the reeds don't overlap, the internal volume produced will be too big with a -2 shape, although, i know people whom has had success as well with this kind of reed, mainly because many aspects of reed making is determined by the way one plays.
To give an example, i believe in a way of playing where the music determines how much effort i want to put into my playing. There is a danger always that one makes a type of reed so easy that there is not enough possibility of colors available. On the contrary, some type of reeds can be so difficult to play, that intonation and ease is impossible without excessive embouchure gymnastics.
My short scrape reeds are not traditionally "French" in that sense, so again, there is so much to learn, because there are so many ways and they all work!
Regards,
Howard
