I tried my son's Fox and loved it; very forgiving insturment stable (and much lighter than my Loree) and plastic or resonite or whatever so it won't crack; it was the school's instrument; a much better offering than the Jupiter (really awful; would never recommend) that a local music store offered.
I like the idea of a used professional oboe since a lot of professionals take great care of their instrument and don't keep them for as long as say a very non professional like myself would.
Hannah's oboes or Nora Post's oboe site are both great; Peter Hurd sells oboes and is very generous with his time and attention to even non buyers; all were very helpful to me when I was looking for a used oboe although ultimately I got my current E series Loree at the online marketplace that must not be named. It has the most wonderful sound; even I can make my own spine tingle with that thing and am no virtuoso. I've heard that some of the older Lorees are made of less crack prone wood so am keeping my fingers crossed.
However I will say I am having trouble selling my old oboe with no left hand F; it's a fine instrument but it seems like an anachronism so I guess I would steer you away from the F key lacking horns.
And truth be told changing to a left hand F has not been easy but I comfort myself with the belief that I am staving off Alzeheimers by building new neural pathways
