A friend called me and said that he has a friend who's daughter is going to play the oboe. She's looking to buy an oboe since renting is so expensive. I don't know all of the datails, but I imagine her daughter must be about 10 years old. I should of asked, don't know why I didn't. Anyway, I'm assuming a lighter instrument would be better. Are there any recommendations for a lightweight oboe that has a decent sound and ease of playing (fingering and blowing) but doesn't cost a fortune? I'm thinking used instruments. Synthetic materials are fine, especially since she is a beginner. Brands that come to mind are Selmer, Yamaha, Buffet and Fox. Having a left f would be nice, but perhaps not a necesity. I definitely would suggest a closed hole instrument. I had to use an open hole when I was younger, and that was frustrating for me, I finally switched instruments which kept me from quitting. Anyhow, any suggestions? I don't have experience with lower level instruments, I haven't used them in years. I suggested to her if she looks on ebay that she only buy an instrument if there is a money back gaurantee (trial period), no final sales.
