I am curious why the writer said Yamaha 200 series are poorly designed? I understand that the company made some changes and perhaps newer ones are better than older? I have a student who started on a Yamaha 211 when she was very young and petite. It was light weight and extremely easy-blowing. It lacks side F and one of the upper trill keys, is plastic, which is good for the very young, and maybe not so careful child. She has done very, very well on it , getting a perfect score on the NY State Level 6, most difficult, solo contest. I am trying to get her to move up to a more professional instrument, but this one served very well for the first few years. There are many going very cheaply on ebay due to the fact that students do move up after only a couple years. In my area parents are not able to spend the necessary $1500 and up for a total beginner who may quit after a short time.
