I *had* a decent Barrington. I recommended that brand to a newby, they purchased one, and found theirs was inferior. They returned that one and purchased mine from me (I wanted to upgrade to a wooden oboe anyway). I've since heard Barrington's quality control lacks. If I was to do this all over again, my first oboe would be a Yamaha 441. It's a lot of oboe for the money. They sound fantastic and are reed friendly.
