After many years of dreadful results, there is a very good quality plastic clarinet reed, the Legere. It's made of fine strands, bonded together, with machinery that can graduate the stiffness from heel to tip and side to side.
I have read that they're working on oboe reeds, but haven't gotten one to work well. Of course, oboists have many reed styles and tip widths, and tinker with reeds constantly, so a useful plastic oboe reed remains elusive.
Best regards.
