Good tone comes with time, too. You just have to keep at it. I hear where you're coming from, in that I too have been frustrated that the sound coming out of my oboe doesn't match what I hear when others play, but now after nearly three years, it's starting to turn around.
Sometimes you just have to be patient and keep plugging away at it. There's no "instant fix" for good tone if you're not doing something egregiously wrong with your embouchure. It takes time for the muscles involved to learn what they're supposed to be doing, and to get good at it.
A good parallel would be a ballet dancer. It's frustrating for a 10-year-old girl just starting out in ballet to watch the older dancers and see how good they are. "Why don't I look like them?" she asks herself. But she just has to resign herself to the fact that only time, and practice, will get her to where they are.
