In answer to everyone's questions:
The fingering I usually use is : 1/2xxoooC, and roll the first finger to get the half-hole.
This has always worked fine until now (which is why I don't think it's an embouchure problem). The problem is the same whichever reed I use (which is why I am inclined to think it is the oboe rather than the reed).
The oboe was fully serviced four months ago by Howarths, I use a silk swab (not a mop) and the oboe lives in its closed case when not in use.
The oboe is a Marigaux 901 conservatoire system (with no thumbplate). Having looked more closely, the half-hole plate opens normally (like the other keys) and when the C key is depressed the right-hand middle finger key is not fully closed.
I have experimented today with the other fingerings people suggested. With oxxoooC the note comes out but is sharp; with 1/2xxoxoC the note also comes out but is flat. The note is in tune if I finger oxxoxoC but it lacks the tone of the fingering I usually use.
Any suggestions anyone?
