According to my teacher, the Yamaha 441 is a great oboe for the price, just a smidge over $2,000 if you "know" where to buy it. My teacher plays the 841 and says that in many ways, the 441 plays better than the 841 because its bore is less complicated...something or other. Anyway, I'm a major Yamaha fan now...highly recommended as they're so wonderfully crafted and sound soooooooooo great. I've had my new one (841 no 3rd octave) since February and it's going great so far...all notes are in great tune. I'd go for all Grenadilla (I'm a traditionalist) but just break it in gently for the first six months.
VBoboe, I didn't know you were Yamaha player! TOO COOL!
