I would have to second Craig's suggestion of Duste Reeds (from Forrests) as being easier to deal with than a lot of handmade "pro" reeds you can buy.

And, at the risk of jeopardizing my own supply, I would like to turn you on to the reeds that Robert and Bailey Sorton make. I can always get the low notes with their reeds, and they have a tone that is unlike any other I have ever experienced -- incredible balance. Mellow. They are expensive ($33 a pop), and from time to time, I get one that doesn't work real well -- but the ones that work are solid gold.
