... is a ballet (or hockey) leg-warmer lint-less and wouldn't shed little fibres on its way up or down over oboe keys? It's certainly the right size, so that seems like a practical and economical solution to me if it is. Tie it up with gorgeous silk ribbon on the narrower ankle end ... and voila ... oboe dust cover any time of day or night, or cozy for cold situation, double duty item for double reed instrument, ya-hay!
Only other major objection against a leg warmer, it's perhaps too bulky ...
Now, what we need next is a suitable Reed Guard to pop over the reed in the oboe, to stay in place while resting on its peg, and keep it suitably moist for playing, or at least delay it from drying out too quickly -- i've been looking at this spare hard plastic tube container that came with my old melodian mouthpiece with considerable recycling interest along those lines, it's not too narrow, so it wouldn't be a painstaking hassle to ease over the reed, but the issues are how to fit it up inside to ensure it will never slip sideways or downwards to never-ever touch the reed, and also fit or rest or snug securely on or around the coronet without touching the 2nd 8ve key either
Until then ... take reed out of oboe before putting on dust cover or cozy!
