2nd day of rounded tip reed experiment

Well, hey! I am an old Marylander myself...moved there in 1965 just before that year's blizzard. And after 13 years in CO, one too many snow drifts this year, I've ordered a big snowblower for here. I live where the morning winds really blow hard and the day or two after snow falls we get horrendous drifts.

Thus my cabin fever, snow bound dementia and I take it out on reeds these days. ( I agree with your assessment of the wine consumption.)

Both reeds scraped yesterday with the rounded tip still play very well today w/o further adjustment. One came up to pitch, so its done. I could audition and play La Scala and be happy with it. The other I clipped slightly to raise the pitch and re-rounded the corners. Initial clip added resistence, rounding brought back a bit of responsiveness.

I like the tonal difference I hear from the slightly longer tips, which is something I used to do before moving to Colorado where altitude differences moved me to somewhat shorter tips in order to keep up low range pitch with the fairly open embouchure I prefer.

Anyway, I remain encouraged by the initial results, but these are reeds and maybe its a fluke. More time will tell.
