I agree. And I have this interesting wood wind synthesizer that allows me to do what is called physical modeling of the sound.

For instance, I can choose as you suggest, placing a double reed exciter on a clarinet body... or a single reed mouth piece on an oboe.

A bowed string exciter on a flute...etc.

These do not affect the octave or register characteristics of the body of the instrument, only the tone characteristics.

I don't have a spectral analyzer (yet), but will record the rounded tip reeds in my digital system and play around with them there, next to a regular reed's sounds and see what I can learn.

Also how the sounds combine/blend will be noted.

(This was intended in response to chrisp... another post came in 2 secods earlier and it looks like this is in sresponse to that in the hierarchy.)
