Susan,

I had seven years of piano lessons growing up, and I tried the guitar for
about six months many years ago.

My motivation for playing the oboe is that I love the sound. I think it's worth the effort to play it, and I know it'll be a challenge. My husband
is in his third year with the viola, and he's beginning his first year in our community orchestra here. It'd be nice to be in the same orchestra with him, but I'd also like to participate in an ensemble somewhere my playing develops.

I tried to blow into the reed a couple of times today. I was surprised at the nice sound that came out of it and how it works the muscles above the upper lip.

Cheryl, my teacher, and I will be meeting for the first time this afternoon at the music store. She's going to take a look at the Renard 330 which is on hold for me, and she'll probably play it to check out the keys etc. Today will be a big milestone for me, as I've been working on getting a teacher and an oboe for over a month now. We'll see what Cheryl says about this oboe.
