Interesting discussion cjwright and wrowand. Let me see if I get some of the variables correct:
1. Wider opening means flatter pitch given everything else the same.
2. The greater the ratio from the "chimney" to the tip, the flatter the pitch given everything else the same.
3. A narrower staple opening will give a flatter pitch, again everything else remaining the same.
Does that sound about right?
By the way, I do find that the -2 shape requires a shorter finished reed than my -1 shape. I've also sensed that there is a seasonal difference for me. I live in the northeast US, and it is pretty humid during the summer and dry in winter. My summer reed seem a bit flatter. Does that make sense?
