@Jill,
I totally second what Bob said. Make a reed that sounds raucous to you - it will probably sound gorgeous to the audience. And BLOW! It is very hard to overpower anyone on the Cor.
I would think that any large piece of plywood would work. Place it under your stand, hard up against your chair. Get the Props people to do it for you! They are the experts.
