Ok, I'm in the middle of an opera and I have to match the baritone - who is WONDERFUL. I only play one aria on EH, right in the middle of the 2nd act. But although (apparently) I sound delightful in the pit, they cant hear me out in the audience. I am considering putting some sort of board under my chair (the pit is carpeted). Does anyone have any experience with what sort of "sounding board" could help, and should I angle it a bit?
It makes sense to me that this would be helpful, and sure a lot easier than messing with reeds (which sound great down below, but of course if no one else can hear them it is a problem!) Really don't want to end up sounding "blasty".
