This is an interesting threads with interesting comments from everyone.
I'm amazed to see the diverging opinion about Moenning and Frank (here and on Facebook). Some seem to swear by them, others seem to swear AT them! This is also the case for Lorée.
Because I know only Lorée and Yamaha, I can only say that I'm very anxious to try many instruments: with Lorée, this is a must because even in the dozen standard-bore units I have played, they all have different characters. (I've only owned one, but I have had the opportunity to play and practice with several.)
All I can say, and this has remained Lorée's reputation for around 25 years, is that you need excellent reeds because tuning and "stability" (for me, that means the assurance that certain notes will always sound and tune the same way regardless of how you reach them) is not trustworthy on Lorées - that is, even fantastic embouchure and special fingerings will not guarantee "fitting" the note like it needs to be.
So when I read that notes "lock in", I feel very envious! The old Yamahas I have used did not have the solid sound (back then), but they were better in the respect of tuning and stability.
