On the Buffet Boehm oboe that I own, the keyboard feels awkward to me. It also sounds bright, probably due to a thin body. Another Boehm oboe I have, with similar keywork but made with slightly different mechanical design, feels and sounds about the same, not really easy to play. I'd rather play a comfortable new Loree with a forked f. Reeds will always be a challenge.

I certainly think that a great oboe could be made using a Boehm f and some other improvements such as a modern bore, but it would have to feel and sound good. Even so, the market for it seems to be missing, and customers would not pay for the development costs.

About 30 years ago, I asked the Puchner representatives if they could make a Boehm oboe for me. They said "certainly" and quoted quite a low add on cost.
