Wow, your depth of knowledge amazes me.

When I get a new recorder, I find I often have to make slight changes in fingerings to fix wonky pitches. (This is probably due to the fact that I cannot afford recorders costing more than a hundred dollars... some sell for thousands and I do not think any one of them would have a 'wonky note' in terms of pitch. But you never know.)

The most consistent change I make is to add the third finger and sometimes the 4th on the right hand to 'adjust' a note. In terms of
Origen, the forked F probably developed this way. Long, long ago.

It's just a guess. The other facts are fascinating.
