I am a short scrape player, and find that the less reed I take in, the more edgy and 'non-blending' my sound is, and pitch stability is definitely not as comfortable.
Most students, teachers and amateurs here use the K.Ge reeds, and the supply we get here is all wired. A lot of the more advanced players I have noticed play on these reeds almost to the wire.
When recently talking to the oboe professor at a university on my recent US colleges tour, she made a point of saying that she didn't interfere with reed making styles or embouchures of international (short-scrape) players as the technique for both aspects was quite different.
