Dutchy has given you some excellent advice regarding your reeds! I would also add that I know of one experienced oboist (not me!!) who has been known to use Marlin Lesher (machine made) reeds from time to time. But she knows how to adjust them to make them sound good. I tried one of hers one time, and it really was pretty good, but the ones I bought were terrible. Go figure.
As far as embouchure goes, pretend you are drinking a milkshake with a straw, with your lips rolled in. In order to get the milkshake up the straw, you wouldn't flatten the straw down -- so think of the oboe reed the same way -- don't flatten it out (aka, biting).
Another thing about embouchure is that it is (or should be) pretty firm, but the firmness must be in the CORNERS of your mouth, not the middle. That's how you keep the straw (reed) open so that the milkshake (tone) can get through it!
When you blow, feel the resistance of the air in the reed, and pretend you are letting the air back up into your nose. This is how you can start sounding less like a duck -- besides having a good reed to start with.
That's enough for now! Let us know if any of this helps, OK?
